BASIC TRAINING 101

1) Ignore negative behavior whenever possible (i.e. barking in kennel, adamantly nudging your hand for petting, jumping up, etc.).  Dogs do these types of things for your ATTENTION, so ANY attention given whether positive or negative is encouraging the behavior to continue.

2) Use corrections sparingly & only when very undesirable behavior is exhibited (i.e. growling at a dog or person, pulling on leash, etc.).  Proper corrections include loud noises (i.e. clap hands, tap top of kennel, can of coins dropped on floor, etc.), squirt with water bottle, quick correction on training collar, etc. & should be use concurrently with a verbal scolding such as "aaacht!" or "no" or "be nice." Tones should be low & authoritative.

3) Most importantly, use every possible opportunity to PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE the dog for doing any & all things correctly (i.e. sitting or laying quietly in the kennel, walking nicely on leash, acting nicely toward another dog or cat, sitting on command, taking a treat nicely, staring at you with a happy & wagging tail, etc.). The dog should receive far more praise than corrections each day.
